This rhododendron is called Improved
Fragrantissimum, a wonderfully scented plant grown by a grower friend
of ours. It was hung in a gallery show, nicely spotlighted, and twice
birds flew into the gallery to get to the "flowers". Very
sincere compliments, indeed! The white blooms make dramatic subject
matter with the bright yellow blotch and the shadows in the petals.
I am especially pleased with the quilted appearance of the leaves that
I was able to achieve with alternating dye and resist layers. Here you
see the highlights of light bluish color reflected from the sky in contrast
with the dark teal and black background. This painting is on a two page
chapter introduction in Susan Moyer's book, Silk Painting for Fine Art
and Fashion.
Giclees are available on paper or gallery wrapped canvas, also art note cards
