Fire and Ice

On a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, we visited the Paradise Village Resort in Nuevo Vallarta to participate in a sailing regatta. The landscaping was fabulous including groups of young coconut palm trees with plantings of colorful croton, bougainvillea and hibiscus planted at the base. My artist's eye went wild and this is the first painting from this trip. Fire and Ice is the croton with its leaves of many hot colors on the same plant and the cool magenta bougainvillea vines entertwined. The croton leaves were painted with thickened dyes to minimize the white gutta resist lines.
