Student Review
"Evelyn is able to capture her
joy of silk and impart it to her students. She carefully leads the
beginner through the basics of painting on silk, as well as weaving
in an informal course on color and design. She tailors her advanced
workshops to both the aptitude and the vision of her students, taking
them to another level of competency in the art."

Class Description
Evelyn teaches the gutta serti technique
of silk painting in which areas of design are isolated with a resist
called gutta and dyes are painted within these areas with watercolor
brushes. Materials are supplied including silk, Jacquard dyes, gutta,
and designs to work from. These dyes can be set with a fixative which
simpifies the usual process of steaming the dyes to make them permanent.
The gutta is solvent based and needs to be dry cleaned to remove it
after the dyes are set.
Evelyn teaches one day workshops in
painting on silk in her studio. she teaches just 4 or 5 people per
class. Classes for beginning and intermediate silk painters run from
10 am to 4:30 pm, usually on Saturdays or Sundays. Classes also by
arrangement, min. 4 people, max. 5. If a Saturday class fills, a Sunday
class for the same weekend may be scheduled.
Students are advised to wear old clothes
and bring their own lunch. We will paint a piece of silk 18' by 22'.
If you desire to draw your own design, please keep it within this
size and draw it with a black Sharpie permanent pen BEFORE class.
Classes are generally held on Saturdays
from 10AM to 4:30 PM at Evelyn's studio. However, classes may be held
on Sunday, Wednesday or Friday if Saturday is filled.
