In 1988 I decided to submit a painting in a competition for the Capitola Begonia Festival poster in Capitola, California. Capitola is a small beachside resort with lots of personality. The Venetian Courts are the buildings on the right and are quite old. They are part hotel and part private dwellings. The wharf is also a familiar landmark and to compliment them I added a large white begonia with peach colored picotee edges as a cumulus cloud in the background. It became the 1988 poster and the only poster to sell out during the festival.
